What SEO for local builders includes

SEO for local builders centres on your Google Business Profile, a page for each type of project you want more of, completed projects people can see, reviews and a site that makes it easy to get in touch. Homeowners don’t pick a builder in a hurry. They search, look at past projects, read reviews and ask around before they ask for a quote.

Google Business Profile optimisation

Your Google Business Profile is where a lot of homeowners first see your work, in Google Maps and the local search results. We set it up properly for a building company and keep it working.

  • The right main category, with secondary categories only for the building services you offer
  • Services, service areas and a description built around the projects you want
  • Advice on photos of completed projects and Google posts, so the profile shows real work
  • Checks for suspension risks, like a business name stuffed with keywords

More on local SEO

Local keyword research and map pack rankings

Keyword research shows what homeowners search on Google before they call a local builder, and which relevant keywords are worth chasing: “builders near me”, “house extension [Town]”, “loft conversion cost” or “kitchen extension builders [Town]”. Local keywords like these bring qualified enquiries, not job hunters or DIY questions. We pick the target keywords that bring project enquiries, with secondary keywords for each type of job, then track your search rankings in Google Maps and the organic search results for each one, checked from your area.

Service pages for every type of building work

One “our services” page can’t rank for extensions, loft conversions and renovations at once. We make sure each type of building work you want more of has its own service page, written new if it’s missing, with completed projects from your area, what the job involves, rough timings and an easy way to ask for a quote. On the National package we also build a page for each town you cover.

  • Service pages: house extensions, kitchen extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions, renovations, structural alterations
  • Project write-ups with photos, so homeowners can see work like theirs
  • On-page SEO: page titles, meta descriptions and internal links between related projects
  • Structured data so search engines can read your services and service areas

SEO for other trades

Listings, citations and links

Homeowners check a builder in more than one place, and so do search engines, so your local presence has to add up. We make sure your business name, address and phone number match on the directories and trade listings you use, and build one to two quality links a month from relevant local and trade websites, like a supplier you buy from or a local trade directory.

Reviews from finished projects

A homeowner about to spend a lot of money on their home wants to know you turn up, keep the site tidy and finish on time. Reviews that mention the project and the town help with that, and help you in the map pack. We give you a simple way to ask at handover, and help you reply to reviews, good and bad.

Technical SEO and a website that wins quote requests

A site that wins quotes has project photos that load fast on a phone, a short quote form, tap-to-call and the proof people look for before they let a builder into their home. We recommend the changes, fix the technical SEO issues that stop search engines reading your existing website, from page speed to broken links, and set up enquiry tracking so we can see which pages bring quote requests in.

AI search, included

More people now ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity who to call. AI search is included in every SEO package: we make sure your website, Google profile, reviews and listings all give the same clear facts, then re-run the questions your customers ask in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity every month to see whether you’re named.

More on AI search

Reports you can actually read

Every month we pull the figures from Google Analytics and Google Search Console, then tell you which pages brought enquiries in, what’s moved in your search rankings and what we’re doing next.

Where SEO usually goes wrong for builders

If any of these sound like your website or your last agency, they’re fixable. Each one has a cause you can check.

Examples of what builders tell us

  • “We get lots of small jobs and very few extensions.”

Why it happensThe site talks about “general building work”. There’s no page for extensions, loft conversions or renovations, so those searches go to firms that have one.

  • “People ring for quotes on jobs we don’t take on.”

Why it happensNothing on the site says what you do and don’t do, or where you work. Clear service pages and service areas filter enquiries before they reach you.

  • “Our best work is on Facebook, not our website.”

Why it happensSearch engines can’t rank photos they can’t see. Completed projects need to live on your site, with a short write-up and the town.

  • “A firm that started last year sits above us on the map.”

Why it happensA complete Business Profile, recent reviews and regular photos can beat years of trading. All three are in your control.

  • “I’m paying for SEO and can’t tell what it’s bringing in.”

Why it happensThe report counts rankings and traffic, not quote requests. Nobody has set up tracking for the enquiries that matter.

SEO results from local service firms

These local service businesses win work the same way a builder does, and the SEO behind their results is the work we’d do for you.

SEO for local builders: questions

Something we haven't covered? Email info@dandymarketing.co.uk and we’ll get back to you.

Get my free growth audit
How much does SEO for local builders cost?

Our Local package starts at £399 + VAT a month on a rolling monthly contract, with AI search and monthly AI visibility tracking included. If you cover several regions, we quote the National package after the free audit.

How long until I see more enquiries?

SEO is slower than ads: usually three to six months for rankings to move, and up to a year for leads to follow. If you need calls sooner, Google Ads management starts at £200 + VAT a month, and you can run both.

Is SEO for builders different from SEO for construction companies?

This page is for domestic builders: extensions, loft conversions and renovations for homeowners, won through local searches and the map. Firms that bid for commercial projects and work for commercial clients need a different SEO strategy, which is on our SEO for construction companies page.

Do I need photos of my own projects?

Yes, as many as you can get. Homeowners want to see work like theirs, and photos of completed projects on your website and Business Profile give search engines and AI tools something real to show. We tell you which shots work and where they go.

Will SEO bring me small jobs I don’t want?

It shouldn’t. We build pages around the projects you want more of and make your service areas and minimum job types clear, so the enquiries that come through are closer to the work you take on.

Can you work on my existing website?

Yes. Most builders already have a site, and we usually start there: adding your completed projects, giving each type of building work its own page and making it easier to ask for a quote. If a rebuild would be cheaper than patching, we’ll say so.

Am I tied into a contract?

No. Every package is month to month. You keep your Business Profile, website and data whether you stay or go.

Is the growth audit really free?

Yes. We review it manually, not with an automated scan, and you get your growth action plan within 48 hours. There’s no obligation to work with us afterwards.

Do you do SEO for other trades?

Yes. Our SEO for tradesmen page covers the trades we work with, from roofers and electricians to heating engineers. If you also do roofing or electrical work, the same profile and pages can cover it.
